What makes a place people live, a house, a home?? I dont want to refer to any cliches here. But, there’s a trend these days which disturbes me, that “a house(home) is an prudent investment”. I read in an article that American real estate was severly affected because people started to buy houses not to live but to sell and make a profit. Everybody wanted to buy and sell houses; who would be living in it (who cares about that, right?) The article says it is this greed that destroyed the real estate market in America. It is unfortunate that its not only the market which has changed, but our perceptions and belief of a home.
I wonder what’s a real home would be like, and nobody said it better than John Denver:
“Oh the time that I can lay this tired old body down..
Feel your fingers feather soft upon me..
The kisses that I live for, the love that lights my way..
The happiness that that livin’ with you brings me..
It’s the sweetest thing I know of, just spending time with you..
It’s the little things that make a house a home..
Like a fire softly burnin’ supper on the stove..
The light in your eyes that makes me warm..
Hey it’s good to be back home again..
Sometimes this old farm feels like a long-lost friend..
Yes ’n’ hey, it’s good to be back home again”
Hope you get to make a home like that dear reader..
